Use the uninstall option at Control Panel, add/remove programs.  If it is not available to you, try this:

  1. Open C:\Program files\Internet Explorer.
  2. Right click the folder Uninstall information.
  3. Click Properties
  4. Uncheck the hidden mode and press OK.
  5. Go to C:\Program files\Internet Explorer\Setup.
  6. Run setup.exe

Windows 2000

If you reinstall a W2K Service Pack you will not be able to uninstall IE6.

W2K users can try running the following command:

w2kexcp.exe /u

When you update IE you may be prompted to backup the old files. If you do not, you cannot uninstall. If the files from the previous version of IE are not on the system, it is impossible to uninstall the new version - after all, what it going to be put in its place.
