Blank page - Tools, internet options, advanced, browsing, HTTP 1.1 settings. Turn off "Use HTTP 1.1", turn on "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections".

If you have been to the page before, you might simply have a cache, or cookie problem. Search out and delete any cookies that may be related to the problem pages. Shut down all programmes and boot into dos if you are using Windows 95 or 98. If using Windows ME use an appropriate disc to access DOS. Run the following commands from the windows directory, typically c:\windows\>

smartdrv
deltree history
deltree tempor~1

Reboot using ctrl, alt, del. If using Windows ME, remember to remove the boot floppy from the drive.

Windows 2000 users will have to log in as Administrator to be able to delete the folders in question directly from within Windows Explorer. Windows XP users will use the same procedure.

NOTE:

Different operating systems use different paths to the history, temporary internet files and cookies folders. Check your system to make sure that you are using the correct path for your machine. For example, you may find your folders are located at ...\documents and settings\{identity}\{dir} or similar.

Search your computer for a hidden file called HOSTS. Open HOSTS using Notepad and remove any reference to the problem site/s.

Run the following commands from start/run:

Regsvr32 softpub.dll
Regsvr32 wintrust.dll
Regsvr32 initpki.dll
Regsvr32 dssenh.dll
Regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
Regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
Regsvr32 sccbase.dll
Regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
Regsvr32 mssip32.dll
Regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Go to IE help, about and make sure that you are showing the correct cypher strength. If you are showing zero cypher strength, search for and run IE501DOM.EXE which should, hopefully, reinstall the 128 bit encryption pack.

Disable all other software, including antivirus (but not firewall) to ensure they are not interfering.

Check your system for sypware, using the advice at my troubleshooting page.

Note: If a local security policy is enabled, you may need to enable TLS1.0 and maybe PCT1.0. The policy below has been specifically noted as problematic (thanks to Seth Burgess for the heads up):

Internet Explorer Connectivity and Certificate Display Issues
When you use Internet Explorer to connect to Web sites that use the "Connection: Close" header during a keep-alive connection, Internet Explorer may enter an infinite loop of trying to connect to the site. The expected behavior when this problem occurs is for Internet Explorer to continue trying to connect until the port times out or is reset.
Internet Explorer also may not show a client certificate when you try to connect to a secure Web site after you are prompted for authentication by the secure site. The expected behavior when this problem occurs is that the client certificate that is used to connect to the secure Web site is not available in the list of available certificates that you can select from for authentication validation by the secure Web site. In some cases, you might receive a "Page cannot be displayed" error message when you try to connect to the secure Web site.

Internet Explorer Error Message When Viewing a Secure Web Site
When you attempt to gain access to a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protected Web site using Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0, Internet Explorer may generate an access violation in Wininet.dll. In Windows NT, you may receive a Dr. Watson error message.
