CAUSE The connection file is corrupted. RESOLUTION Re-create the connection file. To re-create a MSN connection using Windows 95, 98, or ME with Internet Explorer 5.x, use the Internet Connection Wizard. There are two ways to access the Internet Connection Wizard: On your desktop, right-click the Internet Explorer icon, and then click Properties. Click the Connections tab, and then click Setup. The Internet Connection Wizard starts. - or - Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, and then click Setup. The Internet Connection Wizard starts. When the Internet Connection Wizard starts In the Internet Connection Wizard, select I want to set up my Internet connection manually or connect through a local area network, and then click Next. Select I connect to the Internet through a phone line and modem, and then click Next. If there is more than one modem installed on your computer, you will be prompted to Choose the device you want to use. When prompted to enter a phone number, click Dialing Properties, and choose the dialing properties required. Then type a local MSN access number, and click Next. When prompted to enter a user name, type MSN/ and your user name. Type your correct MSN password, and then click Next. For the Connection name, erase the name displayed, type MSN TEMP, and then click Next. When asked if you would like to set up an Internet e-mail account, select No, and then click Next. Leave the option to Connect to the Internet immediately selected, and then click Finish. A Connect To box will open. Click the Server Types tab. To change the connection settings in MSN Explorer, follow the steps included at the end of this article. To re-create a MSN connection using Windows 2000 Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Add. Select Dial-up a private network, and then click Next. Make sure the correct modem is selected, and then click Next. Enter the MSN Access number, and then click Next. Make sure For all users is selected, and then click Next. In the Type a name you want for this computer box, type MSN, and then click Finish. The Internet Explorer Properties window appears. Note: If you have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than MSN set as the default ISP, the next step will convert your new MSN connection as the default. If a connection problem occurs using the old ISP, please contact that ISP to set up a different way to connect. Click Always Dial my Default Connection. Select MSN, and then click Set Default. Click Settings. In the User name box, enter MSN/username, where username is the MSN account ID. Leave the Domain and Password boxes empty. Click OK, and then click OK again. To configure MSN Explorer to use the manual connection that was just created: Start MSN Explorer, and then click Connection Settings. Click Change how to connect to the Internet. (In MSN 6.1, click Change how to connect to the Internet, and then click Continue.) IN MSN 6.0, select MSN Temp, click OK, and then click OK again. In MSN 6.1, click Existing Internet Service Provider, and then click OK. Click a user tile, type in the password, and click Sign In. If you are not already connected to the internet, a Connect To window for the connection that was created will open. Type your MSN user name and password, and then click Connect. To re-create a MSN connection using Windows XP Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Network and Internet connections, and then click Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, and then click Setup. In the New Connection Wizard, click Next. Select Connect to the Internet, and then click Next. Select Set up my connection manually, and then click Next. Click Connect using a dial-up modem, and then click Next. Type a name for the connection, for example, MSN Test, and then click Next. Type the phone number you wish to use exactly as you wish to dial it, including any dialing properties required such as "9" for an outside line, and the area code, and then click Next. Click Finish to complete the connection. To configure MSN Explorer to use the manual connection you just created Start MSN Explorer, and then click Connection Settings. Click Change how to connect to the Internet. Note: In MSN 6.1, click Change how to connect to the Internet, click Continue, click Existing Internet Service Provider, and then click OK. In MSN 6.0, select Test, click OK, and then click OK again. Click a user tile, type your password, and click Sign In. If you are not already connected to the Internet, a Connect To window for the connection that was created will open. Type your MSN user name and password, and then click Connect.
